Say Wha? v. 2

Troy: "o-r-a-n-g-e, that's what orange spells."

Ty: "what's buried?"
Troy: "like when you bury up a cow"

Our babysitter who goes to church with us asked Troy how much halloween candy he got. He said, "about a million."

Jeremy had his gallbladder out Wednesday. Same girl asked Troy why Jeremy and I weren't at church Wednesday night
Troy: "daddy's got holes in his stomach"
Amy: "did you put your finger in them?"
Troy: "no, they're not big enough"

Ty: "We did cheers in the gym today."
Me: "did you holler loud?"
Ty: "Everybody else did. I plugged my ears."

Say Wha?

They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. If that is so, my friend Deanna at Delirious Rhapsody should be feeling pretty good right now. She does a weekly deal called Gage says, where she relates all the hilarious things her son says and does. This kid is something else. You should really check it out! Anyway. I have decided to do the same, if for no other reason to have a record of how my kids crack me up for myself. For example:

When I was pregnant with Audrey, Troy told me, "you need to stop eating so much. Baby sissy is getting too big."

Ty: Milk looks like lightning.
Me: How are milk and lightning the same?
Ty: They are both white. Milk is white, and when a storm comes, lightning is white.

Ty calls the video "Mater's Tall Tales," "Mater the Tattle Tales"

(about a year ago) After Troy asked for his third thing to ready one morning, I asked him if he was growing. He got very sad and said, "no." I said, "you must be, the way you are eating!" To which he answered, "I'm trying, but I just keep peepeeing and poopooing!"

We passed a house where they had made a huge scarecrow out of round hay bales. Troy said, "Ty! Look! Look at that big hay snowman!"

And Audrey is at the point where it is funny to just say, "Moma! Moma! Moma!" Over and over.

Ok, so you may not think my kids are as silly as I think they are, but they come up with crazy stuff!

Homecoming

Friday night was Douglas's homecoming game. They also had a parade Friday afternoon. They didn't win the game, but my kids had a blast! (and here's a shameless pat on the back, I made their outfits!)

For Hannah

Hannah its going to have a come apart if I don't post something, so here is a picture of the kiddos from the homecoming game tonight. Aren't they adorable? Those outfits gave me fits like you wouldn't believe, though!
I'm still going to post about the camping trip...eventually.
Fiddler's tomorrow! Whoo-hooo!

School Beginnings

I am a bad mom. I blogged about Ty's first day of school, but not Troy's. Just don't tell him. Shhhh.
Troy had a great first day of preschool last Wednesday! No crying! When I picked him up, Lori said he did great and he was so excited to tell me what all he had done. :) That makes a moma happy.
Now, two weeks in, both boys are doing well. They are both happy...except for having to get up so early, which I'm not wild about either. ;) Getting up and having to get 3 kids ready to leave before 7 is for the birds. Lol. Our only problem is Ty isn't wanting to do his work at school. He is coming home with papers that haven't got the first pencil mark on them. Jeremy asked him why he didn't do his work, and he said "I just didn't want to." Any suggestions??

Milestones

Ty has hit a cuple of major milestones the past few days! For starters.....

He lost his first tooth! :) He came downstairs Sunday morning and said, "Look, Daddy!" He had pulled it all by himself. lol. He was very excited.

He wanted to just keep carrying it around with him. He said he was going to church and tell everybody about his tooth!
A little bit of panic ensued at bedtime. We had told him that if he put his tooth under his pillow, he would get a surprise, but we never mentioned the tooth fairy. However, some other well meaning souls did, and so both of the boys were scared to go to sleep that night, fearing this scary unknown person would sneak into their bedroom at night. And if she could, why couldn't someone else??? So, we told them moma was the tooth fairy, but they still didn't believe me. So while we were there talking, I went ahead and slipped some money under his pillow and told him to look. He was still a little perplexed, since he didn't see me do it. But they weren't scared any more. A few minutes later, Jeremy and I were sitting in the living room and Ty came out in a panic, saying he couldn't find his tooth. He had taken it out of the baggie I had it in and dozed off holding it. When he fell asleep, he evidently tossed it, which woke him up and made him realize it was gone. So we had to have a scavenger hunt for his tooth, which then was placed back in the baggie and brought back downstairs, so it wouldn't get lost again.

Then, yesterday was his first day of kindergarten!

He got to go to his first day of school with a new hole in his mouth. lol.

He told me he didn't want me to walk him in - he wanted to go in all by himself. So I dropped him off in car line and pulled away, with a few tears pooled in my eyes over my sweet boy growing up too fast. Where has the time gone? I just want to keep him here with me all the time!
He must have had a fun day. Ha came home happy. When I picked him up and asked him what they did, his reply was: "We played outside on the playground. We ate lunch, we ate breakfast. We had snack. And I didn't have to take a nap!" So we know what his priorities are! ;)

Troy starts preschool tomorrow. This will be the hard one. I am somewhat used to Ty not being here, since he has gone to preschool for two years, but I am used to having Troy here with me. Not to mention he is my moma's boy, where Ty has been daddy's from day one. So, starting tomorrow it will be just me and Sis here at home. I may go crazy.

Shuffling

...Priorities, that is.

Jeremy taught the boys' Bible class at church last night since their regular teacher is on vacation. He told me this morning that they couldn't answer any of the questions about God's first people (Adam and Eve). I was floored. We have gone over this. We have talked about this. I know that once upon a time they knew this. So how could they remember their memory verses from a year ago, and not remember this?

Maybe I have been a little lax lately in my Bible instruction with them. I know that their spiritual training should be top priority, and I want it to be. I know it is just an excuse, but it just seems like it is so hard sometimes, when there is so much going on. Especially when our regular schwedule relaxes so much in the summer time, and Jeremy is working longer hours, and yada yada. I know. Excuses.

But I have decided things are going to be different. Less tv watching. More time together spent talking about God. We used to do this. I'm not sure where we got off track, but I am going to make it happen again. This is about to be a different home. A different mom, in more ways than one. I actually had a dream last night about how I was a terrible mommy. I know, a little irrational, but it's kinda the way I have been feeling lately.

Man, when did I become such a Debbie Downer??

A little bit of funny to lighten up the post....Audrey has started shaking her head "no." If she is doing something she doesn't need to be, I say, "Audrey" and she looks at me, and I say "no, no." Then she grins and shakes her head and goes ahead and does it anyway. Lol. It's a learning process, right? :)

Proverbs 22:6  "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Update 7/19/11: I feel better now...we talked about the story and they could answer nearly every question I asked them. Whew! I don't feel like such a slacker mom now.

Preschool Party at the Park

Ty's preschool class had their end of the year picnic at the park today. The kids had a lot of fun playing on the playground and throwing rocks in the lake. It thundered and sprinkled a little, and the wind got up pretty good for a little while, but we managed to have a good time before the stormy weather rolled in.

More Graduation Reflections

Ok, this time I am thinking in the opposite direction.

At one point during the graduation ceremony Friday night, I leaned over to Jeremy and said."Just think...in 13 short years, it will be our oldest baby walking across that stage." He looked at me and told me he was thinking the exact same thing.

Ironically, it has been 13 years since Jeremy graduated high school. The class that walked this year is the one that replaced Jeremy's class of '98. Ty's class will be the one to replace this year's class. It is one endless generational circle.

It all boils down to....they grow up too fast. ;(

This was also hit home to me that same night when I went to check on the boys before I went to bed. I always go in there to make sure they are covered up and not half hanging off the bed or something. When I got in there, Ty had his frog (his lovey) in the headboard of his bead instead of being snuggled up with it. I almost cried. I know, he is 5. But he loves his frog, and not only sleeps with it every night, but carries it all over the house when he is awake (which results in endless hunting for it on my part.) And yes, he did snuggle up with it the next night. But the growing up has started. And while I don't want to stop it - I do want to see him grow and learn and eventually become the wonderful young man I know he will be - I would like for it to slow down. Just a little. Please?

Hello, Steroids!

You ever seen a 5 year old on a major steroid high?

It is a sight to behold.

Ty's doctor thinks he has something called PFAPA, which causes him to have a fever for about 4 days every 3 weeks or so. When we were in for Ty's well visit a couple of weeks ago, Dr. P. said if that is what it is, we could give him a mega-dose of prednisone as soon as the fever started, and it would knock it out in 24 hours.

Fast forward to this past Friday....

We were having "one of those" mornings, so I didn't take Ty to preschool. He ended up at his nanny's house playing. Peggy called me and asked if I had any tylenol bc he was starting to run a fever. She came to get the tylenol, and I asked if she minded running and having the prednisone filled so we could try that. Now, we're talking a huge dose here; he had to take 2.5 tsp at once. We thought he wasn't going to get it all down without throwing up.

For the next 2 days, that child was WILD. He slept at night, but when he wad awake, he could not be still or quiet. He talked non-stop. He moved constantly. He looked around the room with a wild look on his face, breathing hard, trying to figure out what to do next. Which is so not Ty. (Heaven help us if Troy ever has to take it!) He was in fast forward all day, running on nervous energy.

But his fever went away.

I think things are pretty much back to normal again. Hoping this doesn't happen too many more times. I don't know how many rounds of mega-steroids we can stand!

My Little Meteorologist

I have a love/hate relationship with stormy nights.

On the one hand, it's relaxing and nice to hear rain on the roof and thunder rolling, and watch the lightning flash across the sky.

On the other, I have seen the damage severe Alabama thunderstorms (and the tornados that often pop up with them) can do.

Back to the first hand...it is so much fun to watch my junior meteorologists get excited about the weather. Both of the boys like to talk about storms - especially since the big one that caused so much damage in the community almost a year ago - but Ty is almost obsessed with the weather. He loves looking at the radar and watching the weather channel. A little hail storm came through earlier, and he was dancing with the broom saying, "It's coming a BIG hail storm! Ice cubes are falling on the porch!" He was so excited he had to call both sets of grandparents and tell them about it. He kept running to the window to watch the lightning and see if it was hailing. He finally fell asleep in my recliner watching the lightning through the big picture window. The sweetie.

We may see him on the weather channel one day.
